The bald eagle is up to her neck in snow, but she still manages to protect her eggs.

Maternal instincts are innate behaviours that assist animals care for their young. This recent incident shows that eagles, like other mammals, birds, and reptiles, are not immune to these tendencies.

In a snowfall on February 22, a mother bald eagle in Minnesota buried herself in the snow to protect her two eggs, as reported by USA TODAY.

Lori Naumann, a spokesman for the Nongame Wildlife Programme at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, said that the eagle was able to shake off the snow by morning and curl her eggs to keep them warm.

According to National Geographic, the bald eagle has been recognised as the national symbol of the United States since 1782 because of its formidable nature and placement on the nation’s Great Seal with its wings spread as a symbol of strength.
